One thousand and forty one of the 1,582 cases received for identification documents in the Federal Territory and referred to the National Registration Department since early this year, have been resolved said Federal Territories and Urban Well-Being deputy Minister M. Saravanan.
He said 340 unsolved cases were being studied by a special task force while 201 cases received were in the not eligible category.
“Pending incomplete applications would be processed after all document details are completed,” he told reporters after launching the Federal Territory level of the MyDaftar identification document award ceremony yesterday.
He said the MyDaftar campaign would be held once again by early next year at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to help applicants submit their valid documents for birth certificates, identity cards or citizenship.
“At the same time, the National Registration Department officers must also be cautious to of some irresponsible applicants who may try to take advantage of such a campaign to obtain citizenship,” he said.
Saravanan said foreigners always tried to take advantage by using locals to get legal documents, adding that this was tantamount to forgery and action would be taken if there was evidence.
“For example, there are some who brought in foreigners and asked us to confirm them as husband or wife without any documents or information.
There are cases I personally saw where a poor lady brought a foreigner saying it was her husband,” he said.
Meanwhile, 44 people obtained their birth certificates while seven received their identity cards at the ceremony today.
