Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has proposed that the government award more incentives to teachers who are able to produce many top students.
Compared to other civil servants, he said, teachers had a bigger responsibility in ensuring Malaysians have a solid foundation for the future.
Existing forms of appreciation given to teachers were insufficient compared to the contributions made by teachers serving primary and secondary schools, he said, yesterday.
Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang Umno division chief, said education in the country had improved following the government’s efforts to provide educational facilities that were in line with current development.
He also urged the government to review the policy on hiring foreign labour to ensure that employment opportunities for local youths were not affected.
