Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim gave the assurance that he will meet later this month the buyers of low-cost flats near Petaling Jaya who have alleged that the developer has not built the project over the past eight years.
He said he will meet the buyers of the flats, Block E in PJS1, at a meeting at the Civic Centre of the Petaling Jaya City Council after returning from a business trip to Japan on Nov 23.
“The Petaling Jaya mayor (Mohamad Roslan Sakiman) will call several parties involved in the issue, namely the buyers and the developer concerned. I will be present to explain the decisions taken by the state,” he told reporters after opening the 30th National Inter-Club Swimming Championships 2011 for the President’s Cup.
Abdul Khalid was asked to comment on the protest by about 60 buyers of the low-cost flats at Block E in PJS1 outside the Selangor State Secretariat building on Tuesday demanding that the menteri besar find a solution to their problem.
Block E Buyers Action Committee chairman M. Sugumaran had said that the 60 were among the 276 families which had purchased the units and were served notices by a bank for overdue interest although the project had allegedly yet to take off.
He claimed that the developer, Peter Brickworks Sdn Bhd, had reneged on its 2003 promise to build the flats, leaving the residents without homes but with debts to settle with the bank for loans taken.
Sugumaran said the 276 families stayed in dilapidated longhouses near PJS1, Batu 7, Jalan Klang Lama, Petaling Jaya, and at a low-cost housing scheme in Lembah Subang for almost eight years due to the developer’s alleged failure to put up the project.
Meanwhile, Abdul Khalid said he would meet several representatives of Toyota Motor Corporation as well as investment bankers during his two-day official visit to Tokyo to enhance the investment potential between Selangor and Japan.
He said Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan will present a working paper on the usage of Information and Communication Technology to develop a sustainable smart city planning strategy in Shah Alam during the visit.
Abdul Khalid said the delegation also comprises state executive councillor in charge of investment Teresa Kok and President of the Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
