Nong Chik: Kampung Baru development not political

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has denied allegations that development of Kampung Baru is for political interest of the government.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has denied allegations that development of Kampung Baru is for political interest of the government.

“Allegations by certain quarters are just lies to stop development of Kampung Baru and to confuse the people.

“The project is not for political interest but to develop Malay land in urban areas. We will develop the area whether we get the votes or not,” he said when winding up debate on the ministry at committee stage in Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He said the government has no intention to use Kampung Baru Corporation to seize the land in the area but encourage cooperation to develop it.

“These efforts are ongoing and we have received offers from about 80 owners who agree to be used as capital for development,” said Raja Nong Chik.

The government also did not ask profit oriented companies but Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad and Permodalan Putrajaya to become project developers.

“The government-linked companies are genuine bumiputera companies with government interests,” he said in reply to Zulkifli Noordin (Independent-Kulim-Bandar Baharu).

Zulkifli proposed that the government brief Kampung Baru residents as they have a wrong perception about the Kampung Baru Corporation Bill.

“They fear that their land will be seized. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) must address this situation fast,” he added.
