The Empire Shopping Gallery in Subang Jaya, near here, which was closed following a gas explosion on Sept 28, has reopened.
Mammoth Empire Holdings Sdn Bhd group executive director Datuk Danny Cheah said almost 90 per cent of the mall’s stores had opened, while the rest were still undergoing upgrading works.
“The physical damage caused by the blast is estimated at around RM10 million,” he told reporters during a walk-through of the mall in conjunction with its reopening today.
However, he was not able to quantify the amount spent on reconstruction as some of the affected tenants were still renovating their stores.
Owned by Couture Homes Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Mammoth Empire Group of Companies, the Empire Shopping Gallery is part of the integrated development of Empire Subang situated along the Federal Highway in Selangor.
Cheah said extra safety measures had been put in place to prevent similar incidents.
All food and beverage outlets at the shopping mall have been fitted with a brand new gas line system featuring 24-hour suction fans, replete with a state-of-the-art gas sensor system that automatically switches off gas supply in case of the detection of a leak.
“This is linked to a master control fitted with an automatic after-hours gas cut-off.
“We’ve been communicating with the tenants in improving all aspects of the shopping gallery, and I’m grateful for their support and cooperation,” Cheah said.
The early morning explosion had caused extensive damage to the mall’s lower floors and injured four people.
