The DiGi CyberSAFE Programme aims to raise awareness of child safety on the Internet, said DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Henrik Clausen.
Clausen said with the increasing rate of cyber crimes particularly targeting children, DiGi wanted to mobilise an online community, particularly younger generation, that was aware of safety and privacy issues.
“As accessibility to the Internet increases both at home and school, we have a responsibility to ensure we create a family-friendly Internet experience for our children,” he said at the launch of the programme today.
The programme is a collaboration between Ministry of Education, CyberSecurity Malaysia, Childline Malaysia and DiGi.
Education Ministry’s deputy director-general (educational policy and development division), Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof, launched the programme on behalf of Deputy Education Minister, Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
Earlier, CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer, Lt-Col (R) Prof Husin Jazri, said DiGi CyberSAFE was an extension of the initial CyberSAFE Ambassador and CyberSAFE in Schools programme.
“We believe that by having DiGi on board, this programme will run more effectively and at a much faster pace, and we also welcome more participation,” he said.
The programme is a half-day workshop involving talks and interactive sessions.
It focuses on identifying the risks and threats online; learning for children on how to stay safe online; and, guides for parents on creating safe computing environment.
