A stellar line-up of local musicians will be lending a helping paw to furry friends in need at the Wag ‘N’ Roll charity concert to raise funds for Paws Mission, a volunteer-run animal shelter.
Wag ‘N’ Roll will be held Saturday, 19th November, at the Annexe Gallery of the Central Market from 2 p.m. to 6.p.m. to also raise awareness among the public about the plight of stray animals and the importance of caring for your pets in a fun and entertaining setting.
While the plight of animals is often raised in the media, animal welfare is still largely regarded with apathy and indifference among the general public. Wag ‘N’ Roll is one of many efforts to change this with the support of songstress Atilia, bands including Muzzy & SuperSyazwan along with ROARM, Chinese composer- singer Mike Wong and jazz artist Lokman Aslam.
There will also be a theatrical performance by Madzlan Abet and poem by Jamal Raslam, with messages of caring for our four-legged friends.
Interestingly, Wag ‘N’ Roll was initiated by several Muslims who run an event management company while the Paws Mission shelter houses mainly dogs and is run by a majority of Malaysian Chinese.
Paws Mission coordinator Ho Lai Peng said the collaboration showed that kindness to animals goes beyond culture, race or creed and hinges on compassion. Ho said that in order to make a difference, we must put aside our differences and work together.
Tickets at RM25 each can be obtained at the entrance. The organizers hope the event will help raise funds for Paws Mission’s shelter relocation in 2012. The shelter in Old Klang Road is currently located on land that is slated for development and it will be evicted when work starts next year (date has yet to be confirmed).
The over-crowded shelter requires urgent funding to relocate or, alternatively, a donation of land, in order to continue operating. Currently it houses more than 150 dogs and puppies, despite successfully rehoming more than 250 dogs since 2009.
