A relative of Tan Sri P.Ramlee expressed pride that the late entertainer extraordinaire’s first school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Jawa, was renamed Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri P.Ramlee.

His cousin, Abdul Rahim Rejab, 74, who was very close to him, believes the move is not only an honour but will also remind Malaysians of the artiste’s contributions to the film and music industry.

“I am happy and touched by this honour as well as the appreciation for my cousin’s work in the local entertainment arena,” he told reporters after Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Jawa was declared Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri P. Ramlee, yesterday.

The ceremony was officiated by Penang Yang DiPertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas, with Penang Malay Association (Pemenang) president Mohd Yussof Latiff also present.

The proposal to rename the school, which was established in 1887, has been made since 24 years ago by its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and Pemenang in conjunction with the school’s 100th anniversary.
