The Civil Defence Department (JPAM) is fully prepared to face the floods forecast to hit the country before the year is out, said Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop.
He said JPAM with a strength of 194,321 volunteers and 1,154 full-time staff would play a major role in flood relief operations.
“We are fully prepared, If floods hit, JPAM members can be mobilised within six hours,” he told reporters here today.
In Marang, Terengganu Welfare Department director Zuhami Omar said the department had set aside RM1.1 million for flood relief in the state.
He said the money was for ensuring there would be adequate stocks of foodstuff like canned sardine, cooking oil, sugar and infant formula as well as blankets.
