Cuepacs will not hesitate to expand its silent protest against the increasing prices of essential goods to Sabah and Sarawak as well, said its president Omar Osman.
“There’s no need for street demonstrations for our protest, its enough to do it silently by boycotting traders who hike prices,” he told reporters after attending a special meeting of the umbrella union for civil servants yesterday.
“Therefore, I call upon all civil servants throughout the nation to carry out the protest for an initial period of three months, from this month to January next year,” he said.
He said the congress had planned for special briefings on the issue with the help of non-governmental organisations.
Omar also acknowledged the support pledged by the Malaysian Youth Council, Malay rights group Perkasa and Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association in the matter.
Cuepacs will synchronise its action at the state level as well to create awareness among traders to be more compassionate and not raise prices especiall during the year-end school holidays and Christmas, he added.
“We hope to get at least a 40-percent participation from civil servants during this boycott, it will be impossible to achieve 100 percent but if everyone takes action the implications will be felt,” added Omar.
