Continuous engagements and negotiations between MRT Corporation (MRT Corp) and landowners affected by the alignment of the MY Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang line have proven to be fruitful following the signing of a simple memorandum by lot owners in Jalan Sultan and Jalan Inai to discuss the terms of the mutual agreement, reflecting a common consensus to resolve concerns that arose from the project.
CEO of MRT Corp, Azhar Abdul Hamid said, “We are committed to implement effective solutions to specifically accommodate the needs of the landowners in each area.
We are happy that the engagements have resulted in a positive outcome despite reservations expressed in the early stages of the negotiations.
“Solutions have been found to address issues of concerns in both areas and we are ready to talk with their lawyers to work out the agreement details in the next few days,” Azhar added.
Commenting on the Jalan Bukit Bintang business owners, Azhar said, “MCA President, Dr Chua Soi Lek has recently organised a meeting between MRT Corp and the lot owners in Jalan Bukit Bintang and I am pleased to say that they are now willing to work together with us to move towards a mutual agreement.
“MRT Corp is always open to discussion and our aim has constantly been to minimise land acquisition and any inconvenience faced by the affected owners as well as to ensure that they will be fairly reimbursed based on the market value,” he added.
Azhar urged the affected landowners in Jalan Bukit Bintang to cooperate with MRT Corporation to amicably come to a solution to ensure the successful development of the MRT.
The support garnered among the Jalan Sultan and Jalan Inai landowners exemplifies progress in the implementation of the country’s largest public infrastructure project which is a key enabler to achieving the Greater KL goal and propelling Kuala Lumpur into the top 20 most liveable and economically vibrant city in the world by 2020.
