The Kelantan government has given an assurance that Orang Asli settlements will be converted to reserve land in stages.
Deputy Menteri Ahmad Yakub said the Jedip Post in Lojing near here was the first settlement to be gazetted as reserve land for the benefit of 2,388 Orang Asli from the Brooke Post.
“Two more applications, namely from Kuala Betis, Gua Musang and Sungai Rual, Jeli are being considered by the Orang Asli Development Department,” he added.
He was speaking at the laying of foundation stone for the Brooke Post Orang Asli Agriculture Training Centre in Lojing here and the declaration of the Jedip Post as reserve land by Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat today.
Ahmad said the 242.64ha land was gazetted under Section 62 of the National Land Code 1965 to regulate and protect the Orang Asli settlement, especially in highlands.
He said 62.8ha of the area would be used as an agricultural training centre for Orang Asli.
