Reminiscing memories of KTM Tanjung Pagar station

TANJUNG PAGAR – The train station was like a second home and my father gave me a memorable tour around the station.

This is the story of Rajagopal David who spent his childhood growing in the workers’ quarters of Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) at Tanjung Pagar, Singapore.

Rajagopal was born as a Malaysian in Tanjung Pagar,  Singapore 40 years ago, but he is a Singaporean now.

He shared sweet memories of his father, David, who used to take him and his brother to the station in the evenings.

“The train station was like a second home for him. He gave me a memorable tour around the station and its surroundings once owned by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad in Tanjung Pagar”., said Raja.

Raja also spoke about the buildings and equipment around the station which reminded him of his childhood years.

During the journey, he accidentally met up with his father’s friend. The last time Raja saw uncle Rafeeq Khan was some 30 years ago. Both of them exchanged their contact numbers and promised to visit each other.

The KTM Tanjung Pagar station may be closed for trains..but the people’s hearts still wide open, longing to meet “long lost” friends and neighbours.
