SEA Park cops Raya get-together with residents

Hundreds of guests and neighbourhood residents thronged the SEA Park police station in SS2, Petaling Jaya for the Majlis Hari Raya Balai Polis SEA Park celebration last Saturday evening, September 15, 2012.

The station ground was crowded with people mingling with the policemen and while enjoying the sumptuous spread of food, they were entertained by a band and singers. The children were also presented with duit raya during the function.

“This event is held with the objective to bring the people closer to the police personnel in the station.

“We aim to make the police station a people-friendly place to visit, not just for making police reports but also a place where we encourage the community to come to the station, talk to our officers and get to know each other better,” said Inspector Gunam Resul.

Among those present at the event were Petaling Jaya deputy OCPD Supt. Tuah Bin Masrom, representatives from the Rukun Tetangga (RT), Residents Associations (RA), NGOs and local community leaders, businessmen, traders and hawkers in the neighbourhoods.

Rukun Tetangga Seksyen 21 SEA Park deputy chairman Cliff Yin said: “We appreciate the effort by Inspector Gunam and SEA Park police in supporting the local community by bringing the residents here tonight to interact with police personnel and celebrate the festive occasion together.

It helps to bring the people closer to the police who can then serve the communities better on public safety needs and reducing crimes.”

“The Balai Polis Sea Park lives up to its name as the best police station in the country. Inspector Gunam always welcome guests to his office, has regular meetings with local and NGO leaders and always helpful when projects regarding safety and crime prevention is concerned,” said Voice of Women president Chew Hoong Ling.

“Festive seasons in Malaysia provide a great platform for the police to meet the rakyat and vice versa. I hope more people will come forward to work with the police, rather than fear the police,” she added.

The Balai Polis SEA Park is one of only six police stations in the country (out of more than 800) to win the MCPF-Best Police Station 2011 Gold Award.
