Saravanan slams bazaar licence sale to foreigners

Deputy Minister M.Saravanan slammed Deepavali Bazaar licensees in Brickfields and Masjid India area who sold the licence to foreigners.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Deputy Minister M.Saravanan yesterday slammed Deepavali Bazaar licensees in Brickfields and Masjid India area who sold the licence to foreigners.

He was told that foreigners such as from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh had to RM2,900 to RM4,000 compared to the original fee of RM120 for the licence.

Saravanan said the licence was issued to Indian associations and traders who wanted to trade at the Deepavali bazaars in conjunction with the festival.

Hence, he asked the traders who were cheated to give information about the individuals or associations who/which had distributed the licence when lodging a police report.

Speaking at a press conference on the matter today, Saravanan said the authority concerned would take action against those involved as there were many complaints received on foreigners trading at Brickfields and the Masjid India area.

“Foreign traders are not allowed to do business at the bazaars and Kuala Lumpur City Hall has revoked three licences possessed by foreigners there,” he said.
