Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil wants swift police action against those behind the murder of a newborn baby girl in Sarawak.
On Monday, the body of the victim was found in a room at the girl’s hostel of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ulu Layar, near Betong.
She had gashes on her neck and stab wounds near the abdomen. Her entrails were found scattered in the room.
Shahrizat said the culprits should be brought to justice soon, for the sake of the victim’s family and relatives, who are suffering emotional trauma.
She was speaking to reporters after addressing the National Population and Family Development Board’s pre-school, Taska Permata Timang, yesterday, in conjunction with the 58th World Children’s Day.
She said the welfare of children is the focus under the 1Malaysia People’s Welfare Programme, including protecting them from becoming victims of violence and abuse.
