The Selangor goverment has contributed RM50,000 to Sri Raja Rajeswari Amman Temple for its social and educational activities.

The Selangor goverment has contributed RM50,000 to Sri Raja Rajeswari Amman Temple for its social and educational activities, which will benefit 5,000 devotees around this area.

The cheque was presented by Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar, State Assemblyman for Sri Andalas Klang Selangor, to the Temple committee members during the celebration of Saraswathy pooja of Navarathiri.

Dr Jayakumar said that temples, besides being a place of religious worship should also play an important role in human development.

Saraswathi pooja is celebrated in all the temples on the eighth day of Navarathi. Goddess Saraswathi is universally recognized in Hinduism as the Goddess of knowledge and learning.

Students in all fields of learning pray to Saraswathi for success their studies. During this celebration students are encouraged to bring their school text books and stationaries to get the blessing of Dewi Saraswathi.

In hiis speech Dr Jayakumar also mentioned that the Selangor State has so far spent a total of RM3.25 mil this year on places of worship in Selangor and advised temple management to be more transparent in how they spend government allocations and donations from the public.
