Two police sergeants from the Brickfields police station were today sentenced to four years’ jail each by the Sessions
Court here today for voluntarily causing hurt on two detainees.

Judge Abu Bakar Katar handed down the sentence after finding Mohd Shafiee Abdul Halim and Mohd Diah Sulaiman guilty.

They were ordered to serve the sentence from today. However, Abu Bakar allowed a stay of the sentence pending their appeals and increased bail from RM5,000 to RM10,000 each.

Earlier in his judgment, Abu Bakar said the defence by the accused was an afterthought as there were issues that were not raised at the prosecution stage.
