Flash Floods continuously affect village

“My wife and I can’t cope with the cleaning after every flood”

Six houses in Kampung Masjid Lama, Langgar, are constantly effected by flash floods, even if it rains for just a couple of hours.

Flood victim, Yaakob Saad, 86, said that this year alone his house has already experienced 3 flash floods, the just a small number in comparison with the countless times their home was flood stricken.  “My wife and I can’t cope with the cleaning after every flood” he said.

Yaakob said that he had raised the flooring of his house to avoid from having to wash off mud after every flood but that is no solution to the flood.  The most recent flood both he and his wife were trapped in their own house for three days.

Another victim Labedah Saad, 75, said she would like the authorities and those responsible to take necessary action to avoid flash floods in the future.

According to Labedah, there is an on going construction project nearby which has contributed further to the flash floods as there are no proper drainage in place.

When contacted, the ‘Pejabat Penyelaras Dun Bukit Pinang’ said that they will go down to Kampung Masjid Lama to evaluate the depth of the problem.
