The People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) has taken over security of Kulim District Hospital after the security company’s contract was terminated.
Kulim District Hospital deputy director Dr Azrinah Azuar said security was handed over to RELA until a new security company was appointed.
He said the Health Ministry had sent a letter terminating the service of Syarikat Cardigan Guard since last month.
“The hospital didn’t know the security company failed to inform employees on the termination of service. It is a company problem and we didn’t interfere,” she told reporters yesterday.
Dr Azrinah made the statement following the presence of 34 security guards who turned up for work today and was surprised to find that RELA had taken over security.
The jobless security guards then gathered in protest to express their dissatisfaction. Kulim RELA officer Abdul Aziz Abdullah confirmed that RELA had taken over the district hospital’s security until it was not needed.
The guards said they were paid RM250-RM350 monthly for the past 15 months without contributing to Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Socso although the salary slip showed deductions were made.
