Rising star Teo Nie Ching gets married

The outspoken MP for Serdang, Teo Nie Ching is all set to marry her doctor boyfriend, Gan Saw Chien, this Sunday in her hometown of Batu Pahat, Johor.

Outspoken Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching is all set to marry her doctor boyfriend, Gan Saw Chien, this Sunday in her hometown of Batu Pahat, Johor.

The opposition rising star who is known for her intelligence and debating skills has been dating her former high school mate for three years.

She tells Komunitikini that preparations for the wedding are in their final stage and the couple is busy decorating their “new room”.

“We haven’t really set a theme for the room, but we are pasting as many ‘喜喜’ (Chinese character for happiness) as possible,” says the 30-year-old with a blissful smile.

The couple will host a reception at the husband’s house on Saturday night before officially registering their marriage and hosting a garden party reception on Sunday.

Talking about her fiancé, Teo says they used to be “just friends” in high school as Gan was then dating another girl.

Her impression of him was that he was a sporty sort who represented the school in many competitions, but their only interaction was in the school debating team, on which he was a substitute, she told Sin Chew Daily.

Soon after graduating, she was voted in as a parliamentarian in 2008, and serendipity bestowed the two another encounter. Gan returned to Malaysia from Taiwan and frequently travelled to the capital city to validate his travel documents.

They took the chance to know each other better and on a trip to East Malaysia, decided to go steady.

Although they were living apart in two cities, Teo thanked her fiancé for being supportive in their LDR (long-distance relationship), describing him to Sin Chew Daily as “my beacon who gives me an objective public view on certain matters.”

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who is on the guest list, tells Komunitikini that he has asked Teo to remember to cook for her husband. Teo reportedly cooks infrequently owing to her public duties, and then relies on the ever-green instant noodles to do the trick.

“Don’t be too fierce to your husband,” quips Pua to Teo.

He also wishes the couple many loving years and many noisy children.
