The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would propose to the Home Affairs Ministry to introduce road traffic education in
schools in a bid to minimise road accidents.
Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said he would submit the proposal to minister Hishammuddin Hussein through the ministry’s secretary-general Mahmood Adam.
“We will also mention this idea at certain forums so that the relevant authorities would accept it,” he told reporters in Bukit Aman, today.
He was commenting on the increase in accidents and deaths recorded in the recent 24th Ops Sikap, as compared to last year’s operation.
He added that the long term measure should necessarily be included in the road safety programme curriculum for pre-schools and primary schools.
He believed it could change the attitude of road users and educate them from being reckless, discourteous and negligent, which were the main causes for the increase in accidents this year.
