The women’s wing of the Klang MCA branch celebrated Malaysia Women’s Day yesterday in a novel way by distributing sanitary napkins to women.
A team of Klang MCA women branch members were seen giving out packs of sanitary pads and roses on the main road of Pandamaran village yesterday morning.
The China Press reports that this was done to appreciate women’s contributions to the society and country.
The report also said many housewives and young adults were seen coming to get the free pads, while a number of men also came on behalf of their wives or girlfriends.
Klang MCA women’s wing chairman Gan Yew said this was the first time the party had done such thing and the response was overwhelming.
“Some of our members were worried about it (the plan) but we decided to just do it,” she told China Press.
Villager Huang Hui Xian said her father was the one who informed her about the free pads and she thought it was a meaningful activity.
Her boyfriend, who accompanied her to collect the items, said he did not feel awkward doing so because times have changed.
