Police arrested three firecracker suppliers and seized various types of firecrackers and sparklers worth almost RM8,000 in separate raids earlier this week.
Marang police chief DSP Ahmad Mazlan Yahaya said in a 9.30pm raid on a house in Kampung Rhu Rendang on Tuesday, a man was arrested and the contraband worth RM7,000 were found hidden in a nearby chicken coop.
“Police also found various other explosives hidden in the chicken coop and in the man’s house,” he told a press conference today.
He said the man, in his 40s, was believed to have supplied the firecrackers in the district.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Mazlan said two other firecracker suppliers were arrested in a raid on a shoplot in Kampung Alor Wan Syed, Pengkalan Berangan on Monday, where various types of firecrackers worth RM500 were seized.
He said the arrest led to another raid on a house in Taman Safiah Murni, Bukit Payong, where firecrackers worth RM300 were also found.
Ahmad Mazlan said all suspects had been remanded to facilitate the investigation and two of them would be charged in court under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 this Sunday.
