A security guard was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today with the murder of Perak Veterinary Department deputy director at an apartment in Ulu Kinta.
No plea was recorded however as the accused Syahmie Hassan, 20, just nodded when the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Nurul Akmal Mustafa Kamal.
Syahmie was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with the murder of Perak Veterinary Department deputy director Dr Rohani Kasim, 38, at Blok F, Tingkat 1, Unit 9, Persiaran Lembah Perpaduan, Permai Lake View in Ulu Kinta
between 6 and 7.30 pm on Aug 3.
The offence is punishable by the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Nor Abdurrahim led the prosecution while the accused was not represented.
The court fixed Oct 17 for remention of the case while awaiting the autopsy report.
In the same court, a former soldier was charged with disposing of stolen goods in the form of gold bangles and chains worth RM6,000 which had belonged to Dr Rohani.
Nuur Hisyam Shukor, 22, was alleged to have committed the offence at Kam Seng watch shop, No. 55, Jalan Besar in Tanjung Malim between 3 and 6 pm Aug 4.
The accused who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code, punishable by a maximum of seven years imprisonment and fine.
The court set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and fixed Oct 17 for remention of the case.
