A mass communication graduate from Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU) Natalie Chiaw Mei Yan, 24, was crowned Miss Chinese Cosmos Southeast Asia 2011 last Saturday at the royal ballroom of the Palace of the Golden Horses, beating nineteen other finalists for the regional title.

The beauty queen who also picked up two subsidiary titles including Miss Personality and Miss Charming, received cash and sponsored prizes worth RM250,000, including a RM50,000 cash voucher from co-event presenter Platinum Victory Property.
Natalie will represent Malaysia at the Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant International World Final 2011 which will be held in Hong Kong later this year, where women from Chinese-speaking nations worldwide compete for the crown.
First runner up Jeniifer Foh Jie Ni, 22 , a free-lance model from Cameron Highlands, received cash and prizes worth RM45,000 and second runner Gong Wen Hui, 23, a student from Thailand received cash and prizes worth RM40,000
A total of twenty participants from five countries in the region (11 from Malaysia, four from Thailand, three from Singapore and one each from the Philippines and Vietnam) vied for this year’s crown.
“I am very very happy to win the pageant. Actually I never thought that I would win but I really put in all my effort because it’s the grand finale and I did all my best,” said Natalie.
Natalie represented Malaysia last year for the Miss University Title in South Korea.
On her preparation for the coming world final, she said: “I will now have to brush up my Mandarin and English and especially my Q & A because I know it is very important. I know this because I have done some research on the pageant what last year winner Teresa Zhang Qiao Wen had done and I think she did well in the finals.”
She also advised aspiring beauty queens, saying “I believe that today I win because I have the full confidence on the stage so I would say to those aspiring beauty queens there must be confidence whatever it is, so just have to be confidence and you know what you are doing and you are the right person”.
“I hope to do well in China and win the glory for all Malaysians,” she said before she called it a day.
The pageant was organized by White fairy Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian franchisee of the Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant, a Hongkong-based programme organized by Phoenix Satellite Television.
