A consumer education seminar on the Tribunal for Consumer Claims was recently held at the Wisma Toing Hua in Johor, drawing over 100 eager participants.
The seminar, which was jointly organized by the Johor Bahru Toing Hua Association and Persatuan Perlindungan Pengguna Malaysia, received positive response from those who learnt more about consumer rights and protection during the event.
Guest speaker Ong Cheng Chai, who is a senior officer who has worked for the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for past 30 years, shared his experience on the methods employed by irresponsible traders in misleading the public and consumers.
He advised the audience to take action against such wrongdoings and lodge a complaint through the tribunal for Consumer Claims.
Ong said that in accordance with the law, a simple processing fee of RM 5 together with the submission of Form 1 ( Borang 1 ) and evidence of receipts would be sufficient for the consumer to lodge a claim against the trader.
The claims however are limited to within RM 25,000 and must be made within three years of the transaction being made.
The seminar was attended by President of JB Tiong-Hua Association Lim Ik Kim and the President of Persatuan Perlindungan Pengguna Malaysia ( Pasir Gudang Chapter ) Dr. Clinton Chai.
