Another Proton Wira theft gang member was detained early Tuesday morning and five cars reported missing were recovered in a raid in Bandar Baru Sentul.

Brickfields police chief, ACP Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said the suspect, 45, was nabbed in an apartment in the housing area.

“Police interrogation on two partners of the suspect earlier led police to this third suspect. Further investigation revealed the third suspect was the person police had been pursuing all this while.

“He later led police to four Proton Wira cars and a Kia Carnival multipurpose vehicle which was reported stolen in Kota Baharu, Kelantan.

“In his apartment unit, we found false vehicle registration cards and road tax slips as well as car theft equipment,” Wan Abdul Bari told reporters today.

It was reported last Friday that police detained two men suspected to be involved in stealing 20 cars around the Klang Valley in the last one year.

In the Tuesday morning raid, police found five Proton cars parked within the grounds of the apartment, and also recovered 17 branded watches, mobile phones and electronic items such as laptops.

Wan Abdul Bari said police believed one more gang member known as “Rambo” is still at large in the Klang Valley and police are hunting him down.

“We do not rule out the possibility that the fourth suspect is the gang mastermind who is now in hiding.”

He said police believed all suspects had roles in the theft of vehicles and there were other gangs who would be selling the stolen cars, as well as others providing false registration cards and road tax slips.

In another operation, three men were arrested while trying to steal a lorry in Jalan Thambi Pillay, last Friday.

He said a company manager, 33, was heading to the parking lot to take his lorry when he saw two men behaving suspiciously.

“He then contacted the police who arrived moments later at the location, surprising the suspects were trying to steal the lorry. They tried to flee but were caught.

“One more suspect who was waiting in a car was also arrested. A search of the car uncovered various car stealing equipment,” he said.

The police investigation showed the three suspects, aged 22 to 28, had been involved in four lorry theft cases in the city this year.
