SMK Sultanah Asma, Kedah emerged as Champion in the Piala Perdana Division of the 4 day National Band Competition (NATCOMP 2013) held on July 6th, 2013 at the Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.
The Natcomp 2013 is held in conjuction with the international endorsed Malaysia World Band Competition (MWBC). Both these championships themed “Harmony in Motion” are part of the one month celebration of the KL Festival 2013 in July and listed in the official Jul calendar of the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia.
In the international category of the MWBC 2013, the Bahana Sparadha Marching Band from Indonesia took the first placing while the Citizen Brigade Band of Dasmarinas. Philippines came in second.
In the Piala Presiden Persatuan Pancaragam Malaysia which is for emerging bands, the Penang Chinese Girls High School (SMK Perempuan China, Pulau Pinang) was crowned the Champion with another Penang school SMK Bagan Jaya in the second placing.
In total more than 20 teams consisting of 1500 team members participated in the final 4 day competition. Both the Drum Corps International (DCI) and the Drum Corps Europe (DCE) have sent their supervising judges to coordinate and to oversee the judging panel. Most of local and international judges have been trained to adjudicate according to the rules and regulation of the international bodies.
