Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) says approval for this year’s Ramadan bazaar lots in more than 100 locations in the
city will be carried out through balloting using applicants’ Mykads.
According to DBKL’s assistant health environment officer, Noor Rizan Abdul Rahman, the locations would be ready by Aug 1 and that so far 61 of the bazaars has been approved, providing 8,500 trading lots.
“Last year we had used the open-system registration for the stalls which resulted in us getting more than 15,000 surplus applications. So this year we will have the draw-lot system using the Mykad which is more proper and systematic,” he said.
He said the rental for each lot was between RM136 and RM163, depending on the bazaar location.
Noor Rizan estimated at Lorong Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) and its vicinity including Lorong TAR and Masjid India, more than 400 bazaar lots would be allocated for this year’s Ramadan.
Meanwhile, a survey by reporters in the area found traders, including departmental stores busy having sales promotions to attract customers.
Marsita Mokhtar, a salesgirl at a garment shop, said the outlet was having ‘mega raya’ sale by offering up to 50 per cent discount to customers.
Haniffa supermarket manager Shahbudeen Abdul Karim said his supemarket started selling dates since last week in preparation for the coming Ramadan fasting month.
A visitor, Yasmine Isa, 32, said she preferred to her shopping now for the Aidilfitri celebration to avoid a “last minute rush”.
