Bersih expands franchise

Fresh from the crackdown on last Saturday’s Bersih rally, civil society moves forward with a diffusion line of accessories.

Fresh from the crackdown on last Saturday’s Bersih rally, civil society moves ahead with extending the democratic and Bersih franchise.

The latest tool to promote electoral reform come in the shape of a necktie, produced by college lecturer Rozan Azen Mat Rasip.

Rozan has produced 80 yellow neckties printed with the Bersih 2.0 logo.

Rozan, when met at the Selangor assembly hall  yesterday, said he brought the ties here especially for Selangor assemblypersons.

He said the response from the Pakatan representatives has been brisk.

“I started selling since last Friday, it is priced at RM15 a piece,” said the personal assistant to Batu MP Tian Chua.

170,000 tell Najib to go

In another development, a facebook page demanding Prime Minister Najib Razak to resign has been set up by netizens following the federal government’s heavy-handed crackdown on the Bersih rally last Saturday.

The page, titled “100,000 people requests Najib Tun Razak resignation”, has generated close to 185,000 “likes” since first being set up on Saturday night.

The page attracted around 300 “likes” a minute, hitting its 100,000 target early Monday and continues to soar everyday.

“Najib is out of touch. He cannot understand pain of tear gas, irritation of chemical water, pain of being kicked and beaten up by (police),” said Longyao Phang in a posting.
