The Bisayas community in Sabah have been urged to be creative and innovative to stay in tandem with present technological developments so that their cultural significance are not drowned with changing times.

President of Sabah United Bisaya Association (PBBS), Janang Gayuh Lajim Ukin said that they must grab the oppurtunities and incentives provided by the government so that their branding , packaging, promotion and marketing of their products could be enhanced, and continue to find a place in the market.

Lajim, who is also the Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, said the Adau Janang Gayuh celebrated annually by the Bisaya community could become a platform not only to strengthen unity but also to market their products.

“We should be proud that many people from our community have made a name for themselves in various fields such as the kulintangan music,” he said during the closing of Lumadan zone Adau Janang Gayuh at Kampung Kukut Padas Damit.

“But we must not think only about the musicians, but more innovatively, about the instruments and a music composers as well,” he added.

To this end, he added, the Bisayas need to hone their skills and also general knowledge.

At the same time, he urged them to maintain a firm unit by supporting policies and programmes under the current state government.

He stressed that the Bisayas must be thankful to the government for having given opportunitiesto the Bisayas in several fields such as politics, administration and other forms of public office even though they are a minority in the state.
