Four policemen, including a woman, who are attached to the Sentul Police headquarters were detained by police for
allegedly extorting money from a man on Thursday.
Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the four, aged between 28 and 34, were detained a day later after the victim lodged a police report.
“The four will be remanded until tomorrow (June 21) to facilitate investigations. Police have also detained a 27-year-old man on Saturday to assist investigations,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, Amar Singh when contacted said the four were detained for allegedly extorting money from a man in Sentul.
“The four had flagged down a man driving a car and accused him of carrying drugs in his car, they later demanded RM5,000 as an inducement to take no action against him,” he said.
Amar Singh said fearing for the worst, the man took the four policemen to his sister’s office in Sentul to ask her for the money and later handed RM5,000 to them.
“Immediately after giving the money to them, the victim lodged a police report,” said Amar Singh adding that police viewed such cases very seriously because police must lead by example in protecting the public.
“We are transparent, let it be the police or whatever post they hold, we will certainly detain them and take action accordingly if found guilty,” he added.
