Bukit OUG: No signs of landslide, yet

The development of new apartments next to the Bukit OUG Condominiums has not caused any land movement, according to a representative from NGO SlopeWatch.

The development of new apartments next to the Bukit OUG Condominiums has not caused any land movement, according to a representative from NGO SlopeWatch.

While talking to Komunitikini after a short visit to the condominiums along with the developer Kiara Resources Sdn Bhd, Abdul Razak Bahrom said there are no indications of land movement, thus eradicating the Bukit OUG residents’ fear that the new development would trigger a landslide.

“The cracks here are old cracks, they are not caused by any land movement,” he said.

He however maintained that he did not have any opinion regarding the development, which was approved by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and is being objected by the residents.

“I’m here only to monitor the signs of a landslide and that’s what I have done,” he said.

The construction of the new apartments had resulted in a major slope being dug right next to the apartment, which would eventually create two neighboring high-rise buildings with based on unequal lands. The new apartments would be significantly lower than the current OUG condominiums.

However, developer Kiara Resources believes such dangers do not exist in this land.

“In the case of Bukit Antarabangsa, the land was soft, but the land here is hard,” told the company’s CEO, who only identified himself as Sam.

“We would look after the safety issues here, because if there were to be a landslide, we would be ones affected by it, because this condominium will fall atop our apartments,” he added.
