10th Langkawi International Dialogue plans hailed

The return of the 10th Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) back to this holiday haven has been hailed as a
wise decision by Langkawi Member of Parliament.

The return of the 10th Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) back to this holiday haven has been hailed as a
wise decision by Langkawi Member of Parliament.

In welcoming the announcement yesterday by Prime Minister Najib Razak that the next LID will be held in Langkawi, Langkawi Member of Parliament Abu Bakar Taib said hosting the dialogue in this tourist island would have lasting and significant impact at global tourism level.

Langkawi islanders are elated with the government’s decision to bring back LID to the island, he told reporters when contacted.

Abu Bakar is in Putrajaya attending the LID being held for the first time outside Langkawi since the dialogue was incepted in 1995.

The four-day LID 2011 opened by Najib yesterday ends tomorrow. This is the first time Najib is hosting the LID as the prime minister of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Kampung Kuala Melaka Village Development and Security Committee chairman Fadzil Din said the government made a wise decision to host the next LID in Langkawi, the country’s premier tourist resort.

“We welcome the decision as it will give an international dimension to LID,” he added.
