The Road Transport Department is to expand its 1JPJ mobile counter service throughout the nation from Aug 1, said its Director-General Solah Mat Hassan.
He said the counter service would be open at public places such as theĀ farmers’ markets and shopping complexes.
“These mobile counter services will be open on every weekends,” Solah told reporters after the RTD Excellent Service Awards ceremony for Peninsular Zone at the Dewan Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, yesterday.
A total of 486 RTD personnel from Peninsular Malaysia were presented with the excellence awards at the ceremony.
Solah said the RTD had started off with the trial programme for the mobile counter service at the farmers’ market at Shah Alam stadium, in Selangor, last month.
During the one-day trial, RTD had collected payment of summonses amounting to RM1,700, and also received encouraging feedback from the public.
Solah said as at the end of last month, the 1JPJ Community had 20,934 members who had registered through mySMS 15888 programme.
“The programme (mySMS) is an alternative or a communication medium for RTD customers to be informed of the expiry dates of their driving licences and motor vehicles’ licences (LKM),” he said.
He said till today, only 80 per cent of RTD customers were using on-line services when dealing with the department.
Solah said through such initiatives like mySMS and 1JPJ, the department hopes the number of its customers using the on-line services would increase to 90 per cent by mid-2012.
He said to date, 93 misconduct cases and 17 court cases involving RTD personnel had been recorded during the year.
