Twenty-nine qari (male Quran reciter) and qariah (female Quran reciter) will take part in the 54th National Al-Quran
Recital competition at the Dewan Majlis Islam Sarawak from June 13 to 17.
Sarawak Islamic Religious Department in a statement here today, said the competition, hosted by the Sarawak government and the Malaysian Islamic Development Department, was a continuous effort to make reading Al-Quran a
culture among the Muslims.
Themed 1Malaysia 1Ummah, those who bagged the national qari and qariah titles will receive RM15,000 each, a haj package and will also represent Malaysia at the international-level Al-Quran recital assembly, the statement
said.
Sarawak will be represented by its qari Morshidi Mohd Salleh from Kuching and qariah Roziah Ayup from Mukah.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is expected to officially open the competition on June 13, while Yang di-Pertua of Sarawak Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng will grace the closing ceremony on June 17.
