Malaysians will have the opportunity to observe a total lunar eclipse in the early hours on June 16.
The National Mosque, Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the National Space Agency will jointly organise a Total Lunar Eclipse Observation Programme at the compound of the National Mosque beginning 1am on
the said date.
Jakim in a statement here today said the eclipse would take place between 1.25am and 7.01am Malaysian time.
A briefing on the eclipse, ‘khusuf’ (eclipse) optional prayers, special lunar eclipse sermon, quiz and observation of the Jupiter, Venus and Mars planets would also be held in conjunction with the event.
The public is invited to observe the eclipse at the mosque as participation is free of charge.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon.It can last more than an hour and only occurs during a full moon.
