Candle light vigil held for Natalie Lowrey in Taman Molek, JB

JOHOR BAHRU – The crowd gathered in support of ‘Anti-Lynas’ movement and demanded the police to release Natalie Lowrey without further delay.

A crowd of about 90 anti-Lynas activists and supporters gathered to hold a candle light vigil to demand the immediate release of Australian green activist, Natalie Lowrey in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru at 8.00pm today.

Johor state assembleperson for Senai, Wong Shu Qi and Johor Jaya, Liow Chai Tung were also present at the candle light vigil.

Wong urged the crowd to continue supporting the ‘Close Down Anti-Lynas’ movement and also demanded that the police to release Natalie Lowrey without further delay.

Also present at the candle light vigil was Johor Bersih 2.0 co-ordinator, Thomas Fam, who spoke on the need of the long haul support of the people for the anti-Lynas movement.

Johor anti-Lynas activist, Thomas Wang, also spoke to the gathered crowd on how he was being manhandled by the police during the June 22, 2014 demonstration in Gebang, Pahang.

He was one of the sixteen anti-Lynas demonstrators detained by the police.

Intermittent shouts of close down Lynas and free Natalie were heard during the one hour candle light vigil.

During the June 22, 2014 anti-Lynas demonstration, sixteen green activists and supporters including two women of Himpunan Hijau, an environmental group, were arrested after failing to disperse at the controversial rare earth processing plant in Gebang, Pahang.

Amongst the sixteen detained were Himpunan Hijau leader, Wong Tuck and Australian female green activist, Natalie Lowrey.

The Free Natalie Lowrey candle light vigil crowd dispersed peacefully shortly after 9.00pm.
