KUALA LUMPUR – A lorry driver in his 50s was caught stealing sand at a construction site in Jinjang Selatan here in a joint raid by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently.
In the noon operation, the raiding party also seized a bulldozer but five individuals at the location managed to escape. Federal Territories land office enforcement unit head Mohd Salleh Sadris said the operation was conducted following complaints from residents of illegalsand mining activity at the site recently.
“Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had been monitoring on the area and even warned the suspects, but they were stubborn,” he told reporters. Mohd Salleh said the residents claimed lorries were making about 50 trips each daily transporting out sand from the area. He said,”It is estimated each lorry-load of the sand can fetch up to RM800 in the market.”
