RM16 million for churning out 900 skilled workers for Legoland

Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) in co-operation with the Skills Development Fund Corporation has initiated a RM16 million skills development programme to train nine hundred skilled workers to meet the qualifications and skill requirements which are needed by Legoland Malaysia theme park.

IRDA CEO, Ismail Ibrahim said that to realise the expectations, the skills development training programme was launched with the co-operation of the National Accreditation Centre of the Skills Development Department (FEMAC) and IDR Resorts Sdn. Bhd.

The selected professional qualified trainees for the programme will be trained before being absorb to work in Legoland Malaysia theme park, he said after a Memorandum Of Co-Operation signing ceremony held at a renowned hotel here yesterday.

Present at the ceremony were, the Human Resource Ministry Deputy Minister, Maznah Mazlan, Chief Executive of the Skills Development Fund Corporation, Baharuddin Ahmad Kadir, Skills Development department Director, Uzin Ali, FEMAC President, Muhamad Nasir Hamzah and IDR Resorts CEO, Muhammad Zainal Ashikin Muhammad Rejab.

At the same ceremony, IRDA also signed a Memorandum of Co-operation with Skills Development department and the Skills Development Fund Corporation to incorporate tourism and hospitality training into the programme.

Ismail said, the signing of the Memorandum of Co-operations are in line with IRDA commitment make Iskandar region into much more balanced and attractive investment destination.

Besides that, it will create job employment opportunities for the locals offering various management and supervisory positions once Logoland Malaysia theme park starts its operation by end of next year, he added.

The thirty-one hectares Legoland Malaysia theme park costing RM720 million is the first to build in Asia is jointly developed by IDR Resorts, a subsidiary of Iskandar Investment Bhd and Merlin Entertainment.

Legoland Malaysia is the sixth Legoland chain of theme parks in the world after Billund in Denmark, Windsor in England, California and Florida in United States and Deutschland in Germany.
