Johor state-level Wesak Day celebration set to kick off

The main highlight of the Johor Wesak day celebration is the decorative float parade which will take place at night. The official ceremony for the parade will start from 6.00 pm onwards.

Sixteen Johor Buddhist Association will jointly organize the state level Wesak Day from May 17 with “Cultivate the loving heart, develop the harmony of the mind” as the theme.

Chief Ref. Chan Liang said that the celebration ceremony will commence at 8.00 am and ends at 3.00 pm in the main hall of Foon Yew school.

The chairperson of Johor Buddhist Association,  chief Ref. Chan Liang and the working committee invited the public to  join in the annual Wesak Day celebration at Primary School Foon Yew (1), located at Jalan Kebun Teh, Johor Bahru.

Other programs which will take place in the Wesak Day celebration include:

a) Official prayer ceremony

b) Charity vegetarian food fund raising

c) Books and souvenir exhibition

d) Children drawing Contest

e) The Tzu Chi art of handful drama show and

f) Green environment recycle program exhibition

Public are urged to bring their own bag and cutleries in an effort to raise awareness on environment.

The orgainizing committee expects more than 5000 people to participate in this festival and reminded the public to follow RELA’s instruction to avoid the serious traffic jam from happening.
