APT Salon sets Guinness World Record with 325 haircuts in one hour

APT Salon set a Guinness World Record with 325 haircuts in one hour at “Cut for Love,” raising RM18,400 for cancer support in Malaysia.

APT Salon has made history by officially setting the Guinness World Record for the Most Haircuts by a Team in One Hour, while simultaneously raising funds and awareness for cancer support in Malaysia.

At the bustling Main Atrium of Sunway Velocity Mall, a team of 140 APT hairstylists worked together to deliver 325 haircuts in just one hour, a feat verified by Guinness World Records adjudicator Austin Johnson. Beyond the achievement, the event—aptly titled “Cut for Love”—successfully blended community spirit, creativity, and a life-changing cause.

“We believe that even a simple haircut can carry deep meaning. Through this record-breaking event, we’re showing the world what Malaysians can achieve with unity, purpose, and heart. It’s not just about cutting hair—it’s about cutting for hope,” said Vincent Teh, CEO of APT Salon.

A world record with a purpose

The monumental attempt was not only about setting a global milestone but also about giving back. APT Salon pledged RM50 for each haircut delivered during the event, raising a total of RM18,400. The funds will directly benefit the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

In addition, hair donations collected during Cut for Love will be used to craft wigs for breast cancer patients undergoing treatment. These wigs, organisers said, are meant to restore not only appearance but also confidence and dignity for women battling the disease.

Raising awareness through action

Health remained central to the initiative. NCSM and BCWA teams were present at the mall to provide free cancer screening and clinical breast examinations for the public. For many attendees, it was a rare opportunity to access preventive healthcare while supporting a noble cause.

“The rising number of late-stage cancer diagnoses is a concern. Therefore, early detection remains crucial to improving survival rates and treatment outcomes. With timely screenings, many lives could be saved,” said Kol. Bersekutu (PA) Associate Professor Dr. Murallitharan Munisamy, Managing Director of NCSM.

BCWA echoed the sentiment, emphasising the emotional impact of community-driven initiatives.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I know firsthand how powerful it is to feel seen and supported at a time when you feel like no one else understands what you’re going through. Being a part of APT Salon’s Cut For Love is more than getting a haircut—it’s a gesture of strength and solidarity,” said Liew Swee Lee, Secretary of BCWA.

Survivors take the spotlight

Adding a deeply personal touch, the campaign featured makeover sessions for cancer survivors from Pink Unity, NCSM’s support group, alongside members of BCWA. These survivors shared their journeys through video interviews, now showcased on APT Salon’s social media pages.

Liew Swee Lee was among the first to receive a haircut during the record attempt, a symbolic gesture that underscored the resilience and unity of cancer survivors.

Through these acts of compassion, the event became more than a record-setting spectacle—it was a platform of hope, strength, and community healing.

For the public, the celebrations may have ended in an hour, but the impact of Cut for Love will continue through the funds raised, the wigs donated, and the awareness spread across Malaysia.
