Bigo Live, KSK unite for Raya charity impact drive

Bigo Live and Kechara Soup Kitchen raise RM10,000 through “Rise & Raise,” blending livestream fundraising with on-ground aid for vulnerable communities.

Global livestreaming platform Bigo Live has partnered with Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) to roll out a Hari Raya charity initiative aimed at supporting marginalised communities across the capital. The campaign, dubbed “Rise & Raise,” brought together the platform’s Top 20 creators in a hybrid effort combining digital fundraising and on-ground outreach, successfully raising RM10,000 for KSK’s beneficiaries.

Timed to coincide with Ramadan and the lead-up to Syawal, the initiative sought to address a persistent but often overlooked issue — the heightened isolation experienced by the homeless and urban poor during festive periods. Through a series of dedicated livestreams, Bigo Live users across Malaysia contributed via Ramadan-themed virtual gifts, with a significant portion of proceeds channelled directly into KSK’s welfare programmes.

The funds will support a range of initiatives, including the distribution of hot “buka puasa” meals, festive Raya hampers, and food bank operations involving the rescue and redistribution of surplus food to underprivileged families. Longer-term efforts such as skills training programmes are also set to benefit, reflecting a broader push toward financial independence among vulnerable groups.

“At Bigo Live, we believe in the power of community, whether online or on the streets of Kuala Lumpur. Through our collective efforts with Kechara Soup Kitchen, we have turned digital engagement into real-world impact, extending our outreach to the local communities in need. We are grateful to all our creators who have joined us in sharing joy and dignity with those who need it the most,” said a Bigo Live Malaysia spokesperson.

Creators step beyond screens to support urban poor

Beyond the digital campaign, Bigo Live employees and creators took part in hands-on volunteer work, joining KSK teams in food preparation and street distributions across seven locations in Kuala Lumpur. The initiative also saw visits to the Medan Tuanku Homeless Centre, where volunteers personally distributed meals and engaged with homeless individuals and vulnerable communities.

KSK representative Jien Howe Khong welcomed the collaboration, noting its tangible impact on the ground.

“Bigo Live’s involvement in our food distributions throughout Kuala Lumpur, alongside their generous donation of RM10,000, is something we are deeply thankful for. This contribution is vital in enabling KSK to supply essential necessities, including food and medical aid, to homeless individuals and vulnerable families through our various programmes. It is particularly heartwarming to see the dynamic Bigo Live community offering not just financial support, but also festive cheer and genuine human connection to those we serve,” he said.

Launched in 2016, Bigo Live continues to position itself as more than a social streaming platform, leveraging its global community to drive local impact. As it marks its 10th anniversary this year, the company says it remains committed to empowering creators to extend their influence beyond entertainment, fostering meaningful contributions to society through both digital and physical engagement.
