As schools nationwide reopen for a new academic year, MILO® has rolled out its Project Breakfast for School Kids initiative to help ensure primary schoolchildren from low-income families start their mornings well nourished and ready to learn. Launched in 2021 in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MOE), the programme continues to address food insecurity among pupils, particularly those from B40 households.
This year’s initiative will benefit 8,000 students from 200 primary schools across the country. Over five consecutive school days, participating pupils will receive nutritious breakfast sets designed to provide them with the energy needed to focus in class. In total, 40,000 breakfast sets will be distributed nationwide during the programme period, underscoring the scale of the public-private collaboration aimed at supporting students’ well-being at the start of the school term.

The effort comes at a time when many families face financial pressures associated with back-to-school expenses, making access to regular, balanced meals an ongoing challenge for some children.
Nutrition, movement and learning combined
The breakfast sets provided under Project Breakfast for School Kids are selected from the Ministry of Education’s Rancangan Makanan Tambahan (RMT) menu. Each meal is paired with MILO®, ensuring students receive a balanced start to their day that supports both physical energy and mental focus.
Beyond meals, the programme takes a holistic approach to student well-being. Participating schools will host MILO® Senamrobik sessions, encouraging children to stay active and engaged through guided physical activities. In addition, qualified nutritionists will conduct nutrition education talks to help students understand the importance of healthy eating habits from a young age.
By integrating nourishment, physical movement and education, the initiative aims to foster positive routines that extend beyond the classroom. These activities are designed to enhance students’ learning experiences while encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles that can contribute to long-term personal development.

Complementing government efforts through collaboration
Project Breakfast for School Kids also plays a complementary role to existing government assistance programmes. While the RMT scheme supports eligible students, the MILO®-MOE collaboration helps widen access to nutritious breakfasts for children who may not be covered under current provisions but still require support.
“This initiative reflects the Ministry of Education’s commitment to making sure no child begins their school day hungry and helps create a healthier and more focused learning environment, especially for those from underprivileged communities. It also eases the financial pressures faced by families during the back-to-school period and supports school canteen operators who play a central role in delivering these nutritious meals. We appreciate the collaboration with MILO® in strengthening our shared responsibility to support students’ well-being,” said Zainal Bin Abas, Deputy Director General of Education Malaysia (School Operations Sector), Ministry of Education.
Echoing this sentiment, Ng Su Yen, Business Executive Officer of MILO® at Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, highlighted the brand’s long-term commitment to child nutrition. “Nutritious breakfasts are the foundation of a child’s growth, learning and overall well-being. As the new school term begins, we hope this initiative will support students from struggling families meet their nutritional needs and enable thousands of them to begin their school day with energy. This programme reflects MILO®’s ongoing commitment to nurturing healthy habits that last a lifetime,” she said.
Guided by its purpose of nourishing communities and promoting healthier, more active lifestyles, MILO® continues to position Project Breakfast for School Kids as a meaningful contribution towards ensuring every child has the energy to learn, participate and thrive in school.
