Malaysia’s burgeoning reputation as a leading global education hub received a significant boost with the successful hosting of the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit at Sunway University.
Held from April 29th to May 1st, 2024, the prestigious event brought together over 600 esteemed educators and academics from across Asia.
Gathering of global educational leaders at Sunway Uni
The summit served as a platform for prominent figures in Asian higher education to convene and discuss critical issues impacting the region’s educational landscape.
Delegates from renowned universities such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, and Monash University participated in the event, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Additionally, world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay welcomed attendees, adding a touch of international flair to the event.
Themed “Bridging Frontiers to Redefine the Evolving Educational Landscape in Asia,” the summit addressed the need for universities to adapt their curricula to prepare students for a dynamic job market.
Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education, emphasised the government’s commitment to prioritising student development and ensuring universities fulfill their educational mission.
Knowledge exchange and collaboration
Over 35 academic sessions provided a platform for universities to showcase their achievements, share best practices, and explore collaborative opportunities.
Discussions focused on equipping graduates with practical skills and knowledge to enhance their employability, contribute to economic growth, and promote positive societal change.
The summit culminated in a spectacular gala dinner at the Sunway Resort Hotel. This event, graced by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, served as the stage for THE Awards Asia 2024. The ceremony celebrated exceptional achievements and diverse excellence in Asian higher education.
Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University, expressed his pride in hosting the event: “We are honored to be the first Malaysian institution to host the THE Asia Universities Summit.
