APU wins Varsity Hackathon with fintech app “Savvy”

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation‘s (APU) roadto15k team has emerged victorious at the 2024 Varsity Hackathon, organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia‘s Computer Science Society.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for the team, showcasing their talent and dedication in the field of computer science.

APU: Mentorship and collaboration lead to success

Guided by their mentor, Amad Arshad, the roadto15k team embarked on a journey of creativity and problem-solving.

Arshad, a Senior Lecturer and Corporate Trainer at APU’s School of Computing, played a crucial role in their success.

The Varsity Hackathon, now in its third year, is designed to promote Islamic fintech by cultivating expertise and fostering collaboration among universities in Malaysia.

Over 200 teams from universities across the country participated, with the roadto15k team making their debut appearance.

Savvy App aims to revolutionise debt management

Following a rigorous selection process, the roadto15k team reached the grand finals on April 20th, 2024.

They impressed the judges with their innovative mobile application, “Savvy,” designed to revolutionise debt management and enhance financial literacy in Malaysia.

The judging criteria focused on technical proficiency, business model innovation, and the effectiveness of the team’s presentation.

“Savvy” stood out with its unique approach, not only showcasing the team’s individual talents but also highlighting APU’s commitment to nurturing future tech leaders.

“This award is a culmination of our efforts, the embodiment of belief, and the impact of our approach to a crucial societal issue,” said Suzanne, the team leader, expressing gratitude to their mentor and supporters.

Arshad commended the team’s dedication and their ability to embrace new technologies while collaboratively working towards a shared goal.

He attributed their success to their strong bond, receptiveness to feedback, and enthusiasm for exploring emerging technologies. Looking ahead, Arshad expressed confidence in their potential to bring further recognition to APU.
