Experienced Australian GT driver Steve Wyatt recorded a double victory at the Ferrari Challenge Asia-Pacific Round 6 at Sepang International Circuit. The race returned to Sepang again after this year’s first round racing here with 19 drivers showcasing pure driving exhilaration under the blazingly hot conditions at the Sepang race circuit.
Wyatt guided his Ferrari 458 Italia to two wins from pole position moving him to the top of the standings with 215 points. He overhauled championship leader Renaldi Hutasoit from Indonesia who is now second with 213 points.Following in third place was David Tjiptobiantoro, also from Indonesia.
Wyatt dominated both races to beat Hutasoit by 11.308 seconds in the final race. Wyatt and Hutasoit are separated by only two points heading into the final round at Italy’s Mugello circuit from November 5-8.
The race was just as competitive for the Trofeo Pirelli AM drivers with Swedish driver Alexander West claimed his first-ever victory and was the only driver to push Steve Wyatt in Race 1, although being in a different class. There was a tight battle for second and third places, and after several overtaking maneuvers Wei Xu finished behind the Swede with Jung Hoon Youn from Korea in third place.
