The Atomic Energy Licensing Board (LPTA) must explain whether the proposed RM700 million rare earth radioactive metal processing plant in Gebeng, Kuantan by Lynas (M) Sdn Bhd, is not harmful to public health.

The construction of an Advance Materials Plant within the Gebeng Industrial Estate (GIE) in Kuantan, Pahang is involved in rare earth radioactive metal processing.

Pahang MCA chairman Liow Tiong Lai said such steps was to ensure that the people in the area, especially Gebeng, know the operations of the company while their safety is guaranteed.

“The approving authority can be the LPTA, federal government or state government but before they approve any licenses (to the company) they must give maximum consultation to the public.
