Sarawakian road and bridge project to increase accessibility

The four-kilometre road project and a 63-metre concrete bridge over Sungai Paku here being built at a cost of RM8.08million, is expected to enhance accessibility when completed by August next year, Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu said.

He said the project would benefit about 700 people in and around here,including those from surrounding longhouses of Bebuling Atas, Bebuling Baroh,Skim Tanjung Tebekut.

“The project will help the local community to uplift their socio-economic status as its completion will allow them to market their agricultural products with greater ease and in bigger quantity,” Jabu, who is also state Modernization of Agriculture Minister and Rural Development Minister, said when performing the earth-breaking ceremony at the project site near here.

He said his ministry would consider providing the local farmers agricultural machinery in the near future to help them increase productivity after announcing a grant totaling RM30,000 to help them with farming inputs and another grant forRM600,000 to overcome soil erosion at Kampung Hulu here.

Later in a separate function held at the Rest House in Betong, he handed 24 land titles to landowners and cheques worth RM244,000 to 22 recipients, as compensation for their land.
